چکیده

This work proposes the use of 2D Lattice Flower Constellations (2D-LFCs) to facilitate design a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) slotting system avoid collisions between compliant satellites and optimize available orbital volume. Specifically, this manuscript concentric shells admissible “slots” with stacked intersecting orbits that preserve minimum separation distance at all times. The problem is formulated in mathematical terms three approaches are explored: random constellations, single 2D-LFCs, unions 2D-LFCs. Each approach evaluated several metrics including capacity, coverage, per shell, symmetries. Additionally, rough estimate for capacity LEO generated, subject certain station-keeping assumptions, trade-offs identified guide policy-makers interested adoption scheme space traffic management.

Staged Deployment of Communications Satellite Constellations in Low Earth Orbit

The “traditional” way of designing constellations of communications satellites in low Earth orbit is to optimize the design for a specified global capacity. This approach is based on a forecast of the expected number of users and their activity level, both of which are highly uncertain. This can lead to economic failure if the actual demand is significantly smaller than the one predicted. This ...

An Optimization Model for Routing in Low Earth Orbit Satellite Constellations

In the recent years, a large set of satellite constellations has been proposed to address communication services with worldwide coverage and once data is in the sky, a major issue consists of redistributing it on Earth in a proper way. This work addresses the routing problem in satellite networks. An optimization model is presented. In our model, the communication flow is not divided in several...

Capacity Provisioning, Failure Recovery and Throughput Analysis for Low Earth Orbit Satellite Constellations

We investigate the capacity needed to build a restorable satellite network and design routing schemes to achieve high throughput. Speci cally, the rst part of this thesis considers the link capacity requirement for a LEO satellite constellation. We model the constellation as an N N mesh-torus topology under a uniform all-to-all traÆc model. Both primary capacity and spare capacity for recoverin...
